Axiotron and Other World Computing (OWC), its exclusive U.S distributor, has finally announced ModBook, the first Mac Tablet Computer solution, at the Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco this week. Apparently, ModBook is a modified version of Apple’s MacBook laptop with the addition of a true pen input from WACOM, a new 13.3-inch wide touchscreen display, and an optional Global Positioning System module. It’ll have built-in Inkwell handwriting recognition function and a case made of tough satin chrome plated magnesium. Other features will be much the same as MacBook, including an Intel Core 2 Duo (up to 2GHz) processor, an integrated iSight webcam, and a CD/DVD combo drive.
Axiotron ModBook Tablet Computer is immediately available for pre-orders in the U.S and Canada. European will have to wait until the second half of 2007 before they can get their hand on this convertible laptop. The base price is around $2,279. However, until January 31st, OWC offers the complete ModBook base configuration plus the built-in Axiotron GPS Module at a Special Introductory Price of $2,199.
