Toshiba introduces a bunch of new laptops today. As usual, I’m going to cover each of them one by one. Now let’s start with this ultra-portable U205 laptop series. Weighs at just 1.86 kg, this lightweigh notebook comes with a bright 12.1-inch diagonal widescreen WXGA (1280×800) display incorporated TruBrite technology. The images are processed and sent to the screen via Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 with up to 128MB of shared system memory. Not the best graphics card on the market, but at least it’s sufficient enough to playback your DVD collections loaded from the DVD SuperMulti drive. And don’t forget that Toshiba has its own unique Express Media Player feature which provide instant-on entertainment to the laptop, so you don’t have to boot into the OS just to play your audio files.

Toshiba also packed several security and protection features to the U205 laptop series. For example the advanced shock-absorbing design that aimed to protect the hard disk inside. If you like to finish your work on the cafe while enjoying a cup of hot tea, you’d love the spill-resistant keyboard used by the laptop since it will avoid any components and data damages due to bumps, drops, and water spills.

Currently, there are two models under the U205 range - the U205-S5002 and U205-S5022 laptops. The first model, priced $1,199, is equipped with an Intel Core Duo T2300E (1.6GHz) processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, and 100GB of SATA HDD. The second one, U205-S5022, is retailed for $1,349 and comes with Intel’s Core Duo T2400 (1.86GHz) processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, and 120GB of SATA HDD.

Apart from the processor and hard disk capacity, both laptops share the same specs - 5-in-1 bridge media adapter, three USB 2.0 ports, IEEE 1394 interface, Ethernet LAN, WiFI connectivity, microphone and headphone jack, and integrated 56K modem. Both will have Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition operating system pre-installed, along with Microsoft® Office OneNote, Microsoft Works, and Intuit® Quicken® New User Edition 2006.
