Self-Destruct USB Disk From Kingston For The Army

Folks at Kingston probably watch too much Mission Impossible movies. Where else they can come up with an idea to make a self-destruct USB disk if not from that popular TV series? Well, okay, I might be wrong, so let’s just talk about the portable storage disk instead. Named as Data Traveler Elite Privacy Edition, this USB flash disk offers a hardware-based 128-bit AES that encrypts and decrypts data on-the-fly, 24MB/s read speed, 14MB/s write speed, complex password protocol (must not use reserved words from the dictionary), and non-admin software which you can log in your partition without having an admin account.
Now what about the self-destruct feature? This function will be automatically triggered when someone tries to “brute force attack” the password on the USB disk. After just 25 consecutive failed passwords, the data will be automatically erased from the flash disk. This way, even if you lost your disk which contains valueable office data or such, you don’t have to worry that someone would be able to read it. Except if he/she has a very very good luck and able to guess your password on one shot.
Kingston, in association with Operation Gratitude, is now sending 5,000 units of its Data Traveler Elite Privacy Edition USB flash drives to troops abroad. It hopes that this Mission Impossible disk can help soldiers keep their personal data private while on duty and to help prevent sensitive data from falling into the enemy hands.
