Yesterday, F-Secure announced their new Mobile Anti-Virus software that fully support the new Symbian OS platform, S60 3rd Edition. This security firm will be the first company who develop an anti-virus protection software for that mobile platform. The S60 itself is an open platform for software developers and the Symbian OS 9.1 based S60 3rd edition has added even more features, flexibility and security. The software is retailed for 28.65 + VAT in the EU for a 12-month subscription.

At first, F-Secure Mobile Anti-Virus will be available for the new Nokia N-Series cell phones and Nokia E-Series devices. It will come pre-installed on Nokia N71 and N80 phones as a standard distribution package. While in Nokia E60, E61, and E70 devices, the antivirus client can be downloaded through Nokia Catalogs website.

According to Antti Vihavainen, Vice President, Mobile Security, “As mobile malware authors continue to increase their assault on the platform, Symbian and especially S60 has shown itself to be a large target because of its great popularity. While the S60 3rd edition offers greater protection than its predecessors, the ultimate security comes from the installation of a reliable automatically updated antivirus service which we at F-Secure offer“.
