Toshiba Satellite A100 LaptopAnother star at the Mega Bazaar Computer 2006 was the Satellite A100 Series laptop from Toshiba. No wonder. Just by throwing a glance at this notebook, you’d feel that it’s a cool (and expensive) one. That was also my first impression when I saw it. There are 2 variants of this series, the A100-P540 (PSAA8L-02F00L) and the A100-P545 (PSAA9L-00Q00C) model. The P540 will cost you $1,599, while the price of the second one, P545, is $1,949. So, what’s inside these two notebooks?

Let’s talk about the similarity first. Both laptops are powered by an Intel Centrino Duo Mobile Technology, Intel PRO/Wireless 3945a/b/g Network Connection 802.11a/b/g, DVD SuperMulti Double Layer Drive, 15.4-inch WXGA SuperView TFT LCD display, and Bluetooth support. Both also come with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition operating system pre-installed. And now, here are the differences:

Toshiba Satellite A100-P540 detail specs:

  • Intel Core Duo T2300 (1.66GHz) processor with 2MB L2 cache and 677MH FSB
  • Intel 945GM Express chipset
  • 256MB of DDR2 SDRAM
  • 80GB of hard disk drive with shock absorber
  • Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 with up to 128MB of shared VRAM

Toshiba Satellite A100-P545 detail specs:

  • Intel Core Duo T2400 (1.83GHz) processor with 2MB L2 cache and 677MH FSB
  • Intel 945PM Express chipset
  • 512MB of DDR2 SDRAM
  • 100GB of hard disk drive with shock absorber
  • ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 with 256MB of HyperMemory VRAM
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • Fingerprint reader

Which one do you choose? Obviously, I’ll take the P545 if I have the money…. But I guess, even if I do, I won’t spend that much just for buying a laptop…
