A new phone, the Accton WM1185-T, joins the crowd of Skype’s compatible phones. Currently, it’s still under a testing phase, but according to the manufacturer’s plan, this phone will be ready at Q1 2006. Instead of USB, WM1185-T uses WiFi connection so users will be able to place calls to regular phones using a Skype service, without being connected to a computer. It has 4 hours talk time and 20 hours of stand by time with an estimated cost of $150.
Skype itself is a VoIP client software that enable telephone conversations via the Internet. Calls to other Skype users are free as well as calls to regular telephone and mobile telephone numbers all over the world are at a low rate. Apart from that, Skype also able to act like a normal instant messenger software, by sending a text message to other Skype users around the world in real time.
