As reported by VNUNet, a newly discovered mutal version of the IRCbot (aka Fanbot) Trojan is being distributed around via email disguised as the latest release of the popular Skype VoIP software client. More than 800 copies of mutant Trojan, purports to be Skype v1.4 VoIP client software, has been intercept by MessageLabs this week. Virus maker probably getting bored attacking the other instant messanging services and thus start finding a new target?

When executed the malware displays a fake ‘installation error’ box while installing itself as ‘%sysdir%\remote.exe’, altering the registry and shutting down shared access and Windows update services.

It then tries, but fails, to connect to either an IRC server named ‘jojogirl.3322.org’ (channel name #Phantom) or ’smallphantom.meibu.com’.

The phishing email will appear that it comes directly from Skype, according to Maksym Schipka, a senior antivirus researcher at MessageLabs. It will arrive in the email with the following subject line and body text:
