Fuel Cell Notebook From LG

LG Chemical - Fuel Cell NotebookSoon, we’ll be able see the world’s first notebook powered with fuel cell technology. LG Chem, a Korea-based mother company of LG Group, will launch its fuel cell notebook marketing campaign in one or two months.

The 25W power supply is based on direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) technology. It consist of two parts: a base unit and a removable fuel cartridge. The base unit itself is quite large and weighs less than 1 kg.

Methanol, also known as methyl alcohol or wood alcohol, is a chemical compound with chemical formula CH3OH. It is the simplest alcohol, and is a light, volatile, colourless, flammable, poisonous liquid that is used as an antifreeze, solvent, fuel, and as a denaturant for ethyl alcohol. [ source ]

LG Chem said, the 200cc methanol fuel cartridge, prices around US$1, is enough to make a 25W notebook run for more than 10 hours. Furthermore, they said that the base unit price will be around US$500.
