Searching More Specific Using ‘Fill in The Blanks’ Technique

Google LogoFolks at GoogleBlog posted an article on how to do specific search by using ‘fill in the blanks‘ technique. By using this technique, we can search a piece of string that contains the information we want.

How does it work? The same as the way we’re looking for stuff in our computer using Windows Find or DOS console. Yes, just include the asterix character ‘*’, and Google will do the rest.

For example:

the capital of indonesia is - return The capital of Indonesia is Jakarta on result #4.

the capital of indonesia is * - return The capital of Indonesia is Jakarta on result #2.

Both returned the correct information, but using ‘*’, the correct one is displayed higher than searching without ‘*’.

Another good example is the following query:

the capital of * is jakarta - return The capital of Indonesia is Jakarta on result #1

the capital of is jakarta - return nothing useful on the first result page
