Apple Fails in Patenting IPod Technology

iPodAnd guess who beat them? No other than our ‘fellow friend’, Microsoft Corp, who beat AppleComputer Inc. to the patent application by five months. Apple’s chief executive, Steve Jobs, filed the iPod patent request on October 2002 (which is rejected by patent officials last month) while Microsoft, through his employee, John C Platt, requested on May 2002.

Apple plans to appeal the decision to ensure it won’t be forced to pay royalties to Microsoft on every iPod sale.
