Kahsoon posted this funny image today, named Bad Parenting. It’s about a mother duck with her baby ducks who walked across the slatted drain cover. But when her babies had followed, they dropped through the gaps. Poor little duck.

At first, I thought it was only a joke or a made-up photos. Upon searching the web, I came across this website which has an article about those ducks. Yes, sad but true, it was a REAL story.

Quack team saves trapped ducklings

A family of cute baby ducks had to be rescued after getting their mother in a flap when they fell down a drain in Shrewsbury.

The eight ducklings, who were less than a week old, were pulled from the sewers in Hexham Way, near to the Rea Brook, by RSPCA officers yesterday.

The plight of the ducklings came to light at about 9.45am, when a nearby householder spotted the distraught mother duck wandering in the street outside their home.

When the family came out to investigate, they could hear the frantic “cheaping” of the babies coming from the sewers.

They called the RSPCA, who began a rescue attempt lasting more than four hours. Two ducklings were pulled to safety by the public and two more were rescued quickly using long nets.

Elaine Williams, the animal collection officer called to the scene, said the mother had apparently walked across the slatted drain cover but when her babies had followed they dropped through the gaps.
