It is Talkr who made my blog able to talk. Using Talkr service, you can transform your text-only blog (or any other blog you want) into a podcast. You only need to register yourself (free), and add your blog feed. You’ll then receive a code that you can add on your blog, which will let your visitor to hear your blog’s entry.

What is podcast anyway? Podcast, or podcasting, is a method of publishing audio broadcasts via the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed of new files (usually MP3s). It became popular in late 2004, largely due to automatic downloading of audio onto portable players or personal computers.

Back to Talkr. Talkr works by reading your blog’s entry, then convert this text input into audio, using their text-to-speech engine. The result is a MP3-format audio file which contain an audio version of your blog’s entry. The picture on the left is Yang Chen Gang. He’s the one who wrote the song, “Lao Shu Ai Da Mi”, 5 years ago, in 2000. That was everyone believe at the moment. However, the song is now featured on this Wuhan singer’s album.

The story behind, it is said that the song remained unknown until a ‘friend‘ of Gang’s put a recording of it on the internet in November 2004. There is no information as to who made this recording and what date it was recorded. A report in Phenomena/Beijing Today (April 15th, 2005) said that by November 5th, 2004, a Chinese search engine was receiving over 200.000 clicks each day for the song. This massive attention earned 26 year old Gang the disparaging nickname of ‘the internet singer‘. However, the success of the song eventually lead him to an official recording contract (on November 25th, 2004) with Guangzhou based ‘Fei Le Records‘ for 5,000,000 yuan. Astonishingly, the Phenomena article quoted above, goes on to state:

“At the same time, Yang Cheng is fighting for the copyright of Mice Love Rice with three previous owners of the song. Actually, Yang had sold the song to them but had since wanted it back. In the end, Fei Le Records paid 400,000 yuan to the last permanent owner to make its ownership legal”.

Now here goes the controversy. Two version of “Lao Shu Ai Da Mi”, that scattered around the internet, both were credited as being Yang Chen Gang’s, reveal a voice that does not sound like him at all. At least not the Gang on the official Gang album! But that’s not enough. The version that available on most Chinesse CD shops doesn’t sound like him either. So, how can he changed his voice in just a few months since the first version was recorded?

The Moustro, from Mouse-Loves-Rice.com, has made his own deep research about this.

Both the internet MP3s run for exactly 4:35secs. The first and most preferable out of these has a rather ’rounded flow’ and is a 4.27meg file size. This one is now very hard to find and sounds as if it has been badly compressed and decompressed, MP3 style! The other version (at 4.20meg) although very similar, has more of a ’springy chorus’ and ‘rhythmic’ sound. This version is still widely available. However, – as previously outlined – the version featured on Gang’s album sounds like a totally different singer and what is more, sounds whiney and lacks quality instrumentation. This runs for 4:58secs.

Then there is an unauthorized remixed Disco version featuring Gang’s voice (it’s typical techno type stuff and rips the heart right out of the song) and a duet version with Xiang Xiang (who will be mentioned more in a moment). Again, the Gang voice on these two versions, matches the voice on the official album release. But, again, this does not sound like the voice heard on the vast majority of internet downloads, which are by far the most popular versions.

Regardless, this song has been very popular, and many singers has sung “Lao Shu Ai Da Mi”, each with their own version. One of the most popular version came from Xiang-Xiang (picture on the right). She has two version of it, the English version, titled “The Mouse Loves The Rice”, and the Mandarin version. From Hongkong, there were Wang Qi Wang, Liu De Hua, and Twins (who recorded 2 versions, the Mandarin and Cantonese version).

It is said that there are at least 16 different versions of “Lao Shu Ai Da Mi”! Not quite surprising, since I have Guo Mei Mei – Lao Shu Ai Da Mi album which has 8 (yes, EIGHT) different version of this song, including accoustic version, ballad version, and club dance extended mix version.

Before I end up this post, there’s another “mystery” left. The English translation of “Da Mi” is “Big Rice“, not just “Rice“. So why everyone who sing the English version never use the title “Mouse Loves Big Rice“, instead, they use “Mouse Loves Rice” title. Well, only time can answer it :p

Last week, I made a lot changes inside this blog (My Other Side of The Stories – MOSTS), including the design. I move BloggerSwap box from the sidebar to the Links page. With the release of the new WordPerss v1.5.2, I also upgraded MOSTS into v1.5.2. Oh, for fun, I added GVisit and Guestmap to MOSTS. Both of them will be removed soon :p

2 days ago, I prepare Indonesian Song Lyric Collection (ISLC) for the real launched. Eventhough ISLC already got a decent traffic from search engine (got #1 rank on lots of keywords), I haven’t officially launched this blog to public. So I upgraded the engine with the new Wordpress, installed several useful plugins, and replaced the theme with MOSTS theme. I’ve started promoting ISLC this morning into several blog/open directory, and will launched it tomorrow ) I think I’m going to make ISLC ad-less, since AdSense rarely show up on ISLC, but let’s just wait and see. Maybe I’ll replace AdSense with some banner exchanges to bring more traffic into ISLC, and hopefully, to other sites on FunPonsel Network.

On ISLC, Rossa is really going to be most wanted artist this month. Her song, Pudar, is #1 for both the Most Read Per Day and Total Read For a Week. Quite surprising, knowing that this song is not a new song. The album, entitled Kembali, was released about half year ago, and Pudar, her 2nd hits from the album, was already promoted on radio and tv since 3 month ago. Oh well, I should have posted more lyrics on her, instead of just 5

Since I haven’t installed all the necessarry statistic-related plugins on SLC, I can only see the stas from Popularity Contest plugin (which I think doesn’t work quite well lately) that My Chemical Romance rules. 3 of their song is currently on the top 10 popular post: Helena (#1), You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison (#3), and Under Pressure (#4). Hmmm, since that band is that popular, maybe it’s not too late to write about them on MOSTS? :p

The other lyric blog, Song Lyric Collection (SLC), is planned to launched next week or maybe couple days later. While ISLC brings the most traffic to FunPonsel network, SLC brings the most AdSense revenue! I hope I can greatly boost my AdSense earning when I launched SLC later :p

What about The Gadgets Source and Health, Disease, and Medicine Information blog? I probably won’t launched them until next month, since both still need more content. The next release, after SLC, is going to be AdSense Tips and Tricks (ATT) blog. ATT will be launched at the same time with FunPonsel Forum.

Crazy Frog, a marketing title of a ring tone, is based on The Annoying Thing, a computer animation created by Erik Wernquist. This character wears only a white motorcycle helmet with the chinstrap unfastened, a leather jacket, and goggles. Actually, the Crazy Frog’s character is NOT a frog. It’s an anthropomorphic amphibian, but since his appearance is like a frog, the nick name Crazy Frog came up.

Jamba!, a German mobile phone company, who own the license for the Crazy Frog character (including the animation and the sound), distribute the Crazy Frog’s unique sound as a mobile phone ringtone. With a superb promotion along several media (television, internet, radio, and print advertising), Jamba has earned over £14 million from the ringtone, making it the most commercially successful ringtone of all time. Recently, they also created Crazy DJ Frog, a disc jockey version of the Crazy Frog.

On May 23, 2005, Crazy Frog single, titled Axel F, was released, and suddenly reached the number one spot in the UK Singles Chart, outselling the nearest cortender, Coldplay, by three or four copies to one. This Axel F single, made by a German dance duo named Bass Bumpers, is a remix from Harold Faltermeyer’s Axel F song. Later, this dance single become the official song endorsed by Jamster! which actually samples the original sound, while the other songs below created their own samples of the sound.

The next official Crazy Frog single will be “Popcorn“, which has already been premiered on Top of the Pops in the UK. Back to Spongebob. Well, gw sendiri udah lama gak nonton si kotak kuning ini di TV. Bukannya bosen, tapi krn semua episode Spongebob udah gw tonton. Semua DVD (bajakan) Spongebob yg dijual di pasaran (baca: toko DVD bajakan), udah gw punya. Ditambah dng beberapa episode yg didownload sendiri di internet dng bantuan program P2P, semacam BearShare. Jadi, semakin lengkap pula alasan untuk tidak perlu menonton Spongebob di layar TV.

Selama ini gw pikir episode Band Geeks adalah episode paling gila dan lucu yg pernah gw tonton. Apalagi didukung dengan lagu penutup, Sweet Victory, yg KEREN ABIS! (sayang, MP3-nya belum dapet sampai sekarang kayaknya harus rip dari DVD-nya langsung deh :p ). Okay, I was wrong! The funniest and craziest Spongebob’s episode is Rock-A-Bye Bivalve!!! Episode ini diputar di musim ketiga, satu paket dengan episode Krab Borg yg gak kalah edannya (ayolah, siapa yg gak ketawa liat Spongebob dan Squidward menginterogasi blender, toaster, dan coffee maker) =))

Rock-A-Bye Bivalve berkisah tentang Spongebob dan Patrick yg menemukan sebuah bayi tiram (scallop) dan memutuskan untuk mengadopsinya sebagai anak mereka berdua, dimana Spongebob menjadi ibunya, dan Patrick menjadi bapaknya! ‘Mrs Spongebob’ bertugas untuk mengurus rumah dan merawat bayi, sedang ‘Mr Patrick’ bekerja mencari nafkah untuk ‘keluarganya’. Konflik khas suami istri mulai muncul saat sang bapak mulai acuh pada keluarganya, pulang larut malam, dan lebih suka nonton TV ketimbang membantu mengurus anak. Spongebob yg setiap hari sibuk cuci baju, setrika, masak, dan memberi susu pada si bayi akhirnya tidak tahan dan terjadilah pertengkaran ala suami istri =)) =))

Bapak Patrick kemudian berjanji besok tidak akan pulang telat lagi dan akan membantu mengurus junior, si bayi. Ternyata janji tinggal janji. Keributan terjadi lagi, dan ketahuan bahwa yg dimaksud oleh Patrick bahwa selama ini ia ‘banting tulang mencari nafkah’ adalah pindah dari rumah nanas Spongebob ke rumah batunya sendiri untuk menonton TV dan tidur-tiduran =)) Pada puncak keributan, si junior ternyata sudah bisa terbang (tidak perlu dipermasalahkan knp tiram bisa terbang di Bikini Bottom, ok?) dan keduanya berbaikan kembali. Patrick pun menyarankan kepada Spongebob untuk mengadopsi anak lagi )

Seusai menonton episode tersebut, yg pertama terpikir di benak gw adalah kontroversi masalah Spongebob gay yg beberapa waktu lalu sempat heboh di Amerika

Seperti tertulis di atas, sekelompok aktivis homo-seksual menggunakan karakter Spongebob dan Barney untuk ‘memperkenalkan’ aliran dan paham mereka. Video tersebut dibuat oleh organisasi We Are Family dengan menggunakan backsound lagu hits 70′an We Are Family (sorry, liriknya gak nemu). Pada saat pertama kali mendengar tentang isu ini, gw langsung merasa aneh dan muak pada penyebar2 isu tersebut. Terlalu dibuat2. Sama halnya dng isu Pokemon keturunan Lucifer atau urban legend mengenai anak-anak yg tenggelam di laut gara-gara ingin mencari rumah nanas Spongebob. Apalagi pada kenyataannya, tidak hanya Spongebob saja yg muncul di video tersebut. So, kenapa harus Spongebob yg diserang?

Cerita Rock-A-Bye Bivalve memang tidak dapat disalahkan jika membawa sekelompok orang berpandangan sempit untuk berpikir bahwa Spongebob dan Patrick adalah gay, atau setidaknya membawa ajaran gay. Mereka tinggal serumah dan mengadopsi anak. Tapi perlu diingat, dalam dunia Bikini Bottom, Spongebob dan Patrick masih anak kecil. Masih suka dimanja oleh neneknya (episode Grandma’s Kisses) ataupun orang tuanya (episode I’m With Stupid). Memang agak bias dengan keseharian Spongebob yg sudah bekerja, ya tapi itulah mereka. Yg digambarkan di situ adalah dunia anak kecil yg berusaha untuk menjadi dewasa. Yg sudah menonton Spongebob Squarepants The Movie tentunya akan bisa memahami hal ini. Betapa sebuah kumis dianggap sebagai sebuah lambang kedewasaan yg dapat mengubah mereka berdua menjadi lebih percaya diri.
